This is fascinating. In Nebraska’s Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act of 2010, there are no protections for the pregnant person even if their life is at risk, no exceptions for fetuses with severe defects, or fetuses with a low chance of survival after birth. There is, however, an exception for multiple pregnancies where allowing one to continue endangers the other fetus.
Now, ignore, for a moment, that both the “Journal of the American Medical Association” AND “The Royal
College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists” conclude that fetal pain isn’t possible before 24 weeks at least. Let’s take a moment to recognize that the ONLY TIME anti-choicers felt abortion was acceptable was to save another fetus. Pregnant person might die? Doesn’t matter. Once born, the baby will suffer? Irrelevant. That many people who have abortions already have children and can’t care for more? Who cares.
The only time it’s okay to “murder” a fetus is when there’s another fetus involved. …great logic.
